Track and Field has strong showing at Bethel Invite

Results

ARDEN HILLS, MINN. - It may only be the beginning of the season, but the St. Catherine University track and field team has already seen some impressive times and scores during competition. After two strong showings at meetings, the Wildcats were hoping to continue against their fellow Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes in Bethel's Gene Glader Classic. Lead by junior Rachel Hall (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and sophomore Megan Thoemke (White Bear Lake, Minn./Mahtomedi), St. Kate's once again had impressive results at the unscored event.

Hall recorded a personal best time in the mile race. Her time of 5:37.34 was three seconds faster than her previous time this season and helped her place fourth in a race that featured 29 runners. Hall also had success in the 800 meter race. Her time of 2:26.58 is the 6th fastest score in St. Kate's history and lead to a third place finish.

Thoemke also had a career day in the 400 meter dash. The sophomore sprinter won the event by one second and has been strong in the event throughout the start of the season. She also recorded a season best time in the event of 1:04.35.

Other athletes also had personal best or near personal best days for the Wildcats. Stacey Wherley (Osceola, Wis./Osceola) finished in the top eight in the 800 meter race with a personal best time of 2:39.45. Marie Morrier (Hudson, N.H. / Academy for Science and Design) almost beat her personal best in her fifth place finish in the 800.

Shakeela Wells-Johnson (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) continued to impress in the 60 meter hurdles and 60 meter dash. She recorded her fastest time of the season in both events and won both events easily. Senior Brittany Moore (Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) also had success in the sprints, placing second and running her season best time in the 60 meter hurdles.

There was also success in the field events as well. Kaylea Hoenigschmidt (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) scored a personal best in the shot put and finished second behind Viterbo's Samantha Reilly.

Next up for the St. Kate's runners and field athletes in the St. Thomas Showcase, which takes place next Friday in the St. Thomas fieldhouse.
