Meschke sets school record at Tommie Twilight

Stephanie Meschke
In their final tune up before the MIAC championship meet, the Wildcat track & field team headed to the Tommie Twilight to take on some of the top teams in the MIAC and some Division I teams as well. With plenty of fast competition, the team posted lots of season and personal bests. Stephanie Meschke turned in the highlight of the meet when she set a new school record in the javelin throw.

Meschke broke her old PR by several meters, tossing the javelin 35.43m (116-2) to set the new St. Kate's mark. Meschke placed fourth overall. She wasn't the only Wildcat to add her name to a top ten list. Ailee Larson is now the third fastest 800m runner in St. Kate's history, dropping two seconds off her PR and running 2:18.92 to win her heat. Sophie Shogren also moved her name up the top ten rankings, dropping two seconds off her 1500m PR and running 4:56.37. Shogren led a crew of four Wildcats who all set new PR's in the 1500m, includling Kristina Poss, Ariel Johnson and Jenna McElroy.

Madelin Skaalrud broke 27 seconds for the first time in the 200m, running 26.87 and moving to #9 all-time at St. Kate's. Sarah Mong and Holly Staples both set new PR's in the high jump. Mong cleared 1.62m (5-3.75) and Staples cleared 1.57m (5-1.75).  Mong is now #2 all-time, while Staples is tied for #3. Mong also moved to #3 in the triple jump after leaping a PR of 10.60m (34-9). Erin Coughlin finished just behind Mong. In justher second meet ever doing the triple jump, Coughlin moved to #4 in St. Kate's history with her leap of 10.46m (34-3.75).

The St. Kate's 4x400 team ended the meet with an exclamation point. The team of Kelsey Eder, Kalyse Engbretson, Ailee Larson, and Erin Coughlin had all set PR's or season bests earlier in the meet in individual events, and they combined to drop over nine seconds from their season best. The quartet ran 4:01.31, the fourth fastest time in St. Kate's history and good for second place at the meet.

The Wildcats will take the next week and a half to rest up and prepare for the MIAC Championships, hosted by Concordia College on May 11-12.
