Track & Field runs at Bethel Invitational

Sophie Shogren
The Wildcats racked up two event victories and two second place finishes at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday.  First-year Sophie Shogren won the 1000m run and the Wildcat 4x400m relay team wrapped up the meet with a victory.

Racing the 1000m for the first time ever, Shogren lead the race wire to wire, finishing in 3:13.41.  The 4x400 team of Kalyse Engebretson, Erin Coughlin, Kelsey Eder, and Makayla Skluzacek dropped seven seconds from their season best time to win going away in 4:15.51.

Ailee Larson added her name to the St. Kate's record books with her two second place finishes.  Larson ran 5:31.39 in the mile and doubled back to run 2:26.53 in the 800m.  Both place her fifth on the all time St. Kate's list.

The sprinters also made their own assault on the record books, with Erin Coughlin and Samantha Levercom both running personal bests in the 200m dash.  Coughlin placed 6th in 27.22, good for #3 all time at St. Kate's, while Levercom was 8th in 27.48, #6 in St. Kate's history.  Levercom was also one of three Wildcats to make the final in the 60m dash, with Brianna Ludtke and Madelin Skaalrud also making the final and all running season best times.

The field event team also set some personal bests, with first-years Amanda Grundhofer and Christina Ramsdell both setting PR's in the weight throw.  Grundhofer threw 12.25m for a big PR, while Ramsdell improved her best by over a meter, throwing 10.74m.
