The indoor track & field season got underway on Friday night, as the Wildcats competed at the St. Thomas Invitational. With much of the squad competing in their first collegiate track meet ever, senior captain
Jamie Kelly led the way for the Wildcats, picking up a win in the shot put with an impressive opening meet.
Kelly, who missed the 2011 season with injury, showed no rust in her first time back in the circle. She tossed the shot 12.28 meters (40' 3.5"), close to her all-time personal best. Also having an impressive first meet for the Wildcats was
Ailee Larson, who placed fourth in the 600 meter run in 1:43.60.
Erin Coughlin picked up a pair of top finishes, placing third in the 400 meter dash (1:02.12) and sixth in the high jump (1.48m, 4' 10.25"). First-year
Makayla Skluzacek also cleared 1.48m in the high jump to pick up a top-ten finish. Senior Sam Levercom had a solid outing in her first indoor meet since 2010, running 7.70 in the 55m dash to take 11th place in a deep field.
The Wildcats will take next weekend off before heading to the Bethel Invitational on February 4th.
