The St. Kate's track and field team finished a successful weekend at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Wildcats recorded the highest point total in school history (59 points) and tied for highest place finish in SCU track and field history (sixth).

St. Kate's finished in a flurry, as a trio of second place finishes in the final three events of the meet moved the team up from eighth to sixth. Senior Samantha Larson started the Wildcats off in the shot put. Heading into the final round of throws, Larson put together the best throw of her career and moved into second place in the event with a mark of 12.82 meters (42-0.75 ft). For Larson, who never competed in track and field prior to coming to St. Kate's, it was her first MIAC All-Conference award.

Just after Larson left the shot put circle, teammate Greta Sieve raced to a runner-up finish in the 3000 meter run. Sieve's time of 10:09.40 was not only a new school record, but also broke the previous venue record.

The Wildcats wrapped up the meet with a school record and second place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay. Kim Engel, Erin Coughlin, Amanda Manship and Kayla Engel just edged out St. Olaf and Bethel with a time of 2:02.68. A mere .25 seconds separated all three teams.

Other highlights on day two of competition for the Wildcats included:

- A new school record for the 4 x 200 Meter Relay team. The quartet of Couglin, Jennifer Ampe, Kim Engel, and Sam Levercom ran 1:48.34, edging out Gustavus for third place by .04.

- Celestine Ventura finished sixth in the shot put (11.87m, 38-77.5 ft)

-Kristina Popov moved up a couple of places from her seed, and finished eighth in the pole vault with a new personal best jump of 3.10 meters (10-2ft)

- Kayla Engel lowered her school record set last week in the 600 as she finished 5th in a time of 1:37.28.

The Wildcats are now off until the head out to San Diego California for their first outdoor meet of the season. They compete at the Point Loma spring break meet on March 27th.
