The St. Kate's track and field team saw day one go almost exactly to form as they picked up 21 points on the first day of competition at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Wildcats started strong, picking up new school records in the first two events they competed in. Sophomore sprinter
Sam Levercom raced to a new St. Kate's record in the 55 meter dash. She finished 12th overall in 7.61 seconds. Senior
Greta Sieve recorded the highest finish in her MIAC career. She placed second in the 5000 meter run. Her time of 17:30.98 lowered her own school record, was an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time, and earned her MIAC All-Conference Honors.
Also setting a school record and picking up all-conference honors was junior
Kayla Engel. The Wildcat middle distance runner finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:17.99.
Other highlights for the Wildcats included:
Kim Engel finishing seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 60.38
Amanda Manship set a new personal best, won her heat, and placed seventh in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.04
Celestine Ventura finished sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.18m (49-9.75 ft), earning her MIAC Honorable Mention Honors in that event.
The Wildcats hope to use the momentum of day one to finish strong on day two of the meet.
