MIAC Release
BLOOMINGTON, MINN. – St. Catherine University basketball's
Danica Cambrice (Minneapolis, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) is no stranger to success. The sophomore forward had another spectacular week for St. Kate's, helping the team earn its second consecutive berth to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) tournament. On Monday, Cambrice was awarded for her outstanding athletic performance, as she was named the conference's Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week for the second time this season.
Cambrice averaged 25 points, six rebounds and four steals in two games for St. Kate's last week, helping the Wildcats to a 1-1 record while clinching their spot in the conference tournament. In Wednesday's 68-59 win over Augsburg, Cambrice poured in a game-high 30 points, making her the first player in program history to record three 30+ point games in the same season. It also was her second-consecutive game scoring 30 points, as she put up nearly identical numbers in St. Kate's 68-61 win over Hamline University the previous Saturday.
Cambrice also impressed in the Wildcats 77-66 loss to Gustavus on Saturday. The sophomore scored 20 points in the game and pulled in eight rebounds. However, her most impressive stat may have been the six steals she tallied, which helped spark St. Kate's near comeback.
Thanks to these and an outstanding season, Cambrice cemented her name in Wildcat basketball lore. She's second all-time in single-game steals (8), third all-time in single-season shooting percentage (.579) and fifth all-time in single-game scoring (30 points). Cambrice also leads the team and ranks second in the MIAC in both points-per-game (19.5) and shooting percentage (.579).
