Neumann earns sportsmanship honor from MIAC

MIAC Release

ST. PAUL, MINN. – For the past three seasons, Emily Neumann (Duluth, Minn. / Hermantown) has dedicated her falls to practice, matches, bus rides and food runs for the St. Catherine University volleyball team. On Wednesday, Neumann was recognized for her hard work and dedication by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) as a member of the All-Sportsmanship team.

In the past two seasons, Neumann has been one of the most successful setters for the Wildcats. As a junior, she was third on the team in total assists (314) and averaged 4.62 assists per set, having appeared in 20 matches and 68 sets. She tallied a career-high 28 assists in St. Kate's match against Dubuque in September, where she led the Wildcats to a thrilling five set victory over the Spartans.

Neumann was just as impressive as a senior, as she continued to set season and career-highs in her final year as a Wildcat. Neumann finished the year with 152 assists in 18 matches and recorded a career high four aces in a single match in St. Kate's loss to Bethel in September. She also cemented her place in the school record book, as her 466 career assists rank 13th all-time in school history.

Neumann was one of 12 volleyball student-athletes from the MIAC honored as members of the All-Sportsmanship team.  Members of the team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. This is the first time she has received the award in her career.
