WGCA Release
CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA – Less than two weeks after four Wildcats earned All-American Scholar honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), the St. Catherine University golf team has another academic accolade to brag about. The Wildcats were named one of the top academic teams in the NCAA with a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.699 during the 2015-16 season, the WGCA announced Wednesday afternoon.
St. Kate's was tied for 18
th in the WGCA's list of the top-25 team GPA's in women's golf. The list included teams from Divisions I, II, and III as well as programs in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). St. Kate's was tied with Yale University at No. 18 and was the highest ranked team from Minnesota. More impressively, the Wildcats were one of only two Division III teams represented on the list, the other being Mount Holyoke College with the No. 22 team GPA in the country.
Earlier this month, the WGCA recognized four St. Kate's golfers with the All-American Scholar award for their performance on the course and in the classroom.
Kaitlyn Alvarez (Eau Claire, Wis. / North) and
Madi Roe (Apple Valley, Minn. / Eastview) earned the prestigious award for the second time in their careers while
Sydney Busker (Detroit Lakes, Minn. / Detroit Lakes) and
Nicole Traxler (Northfield, Minn. / Northfield) were first time recipients.
Lindenwood University, a Division II affiliate, was the recipient of the 2015-16 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. The award recognizes the women's collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA which includes all of the team's student-athletes for the 2015-16 season. Lindenwood's 10 team members had an average GPA of 3.901.
