AHCA ReleaseST. PAUL, MINN. – It was no secret goalie
Kristen Pechacek (Park Falls, Wis. / Chequamegon) had a fantastic year in the net for the St. Catherine University hockey team. This past week, sophomore net minder earned national postseason recognition and was named to the CCM All-American Second Team by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA), the organization announced on Thursday.
Pechacek, who earned Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) All-Conference recognition in February, was not only one of the top goalies in the conference, but in the nation as well. In 13 games and 749:58 minutes of play, Pechacek posted a 4-5-4 record with all of her wins coming against MIAC opponents. She led the MIAC with a .960 save percentage, 1.36 goals against average (GAA), and was fifth in the conference with 429 saves.
Compared to other Division III goalies, Pechacek ranked in the top ten in several categories and anchored the No. 1 penalty kill in the nation. She finished the season ranked No. 2 in the country in save percentage and No. 9 in GAA.
Members of the CCM All-American Ice Hockey Teams are selected by members of the AHCA and the award is sponsored by CCM Hockey. Pechacek is one of two MIAC players to be named All-American this season and one of 12 representatives from the West Region. She is the first Wildcat to be honored as an All-American since Michaela Michaelson was honored in 2010 and 2011.
