MIAC Release
For the second week in a row, the St. Catherine University tennis team has remained undefeated and earned the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week honor. This week,
Victoria Bravo (Tucson, Ariz.) pulled in the award as she defeated Carleton College's No. 1 singles player to help the Wildcats to a 5-4 upset of the MIAC favorite Saturday.
The Wildcats took down the Knights - who were ranked No. 5 in the ITA Pre-Season Central Region poll - for the first time since the 2004 MIAC playoffs and handed the experienced squad its first regular season MIAC loss since April 30, 2011. Bravo helped lift the Wildcats to victory when she beat Carleton's Bridget Doyle 6-3, 7-6 at the top spot. Doyle was the top-ranked MIAC player in the region (No. 17) position heading into the spring season.
On Friday evening, Bravo also helped the Wildcats to a 7-2 victory over Bethel University. The junior took down Lisa Scheevel in straight sets at the No. 1 spot and also pulled in another doubles victory for the Wildcat the No. 1 position.
So far this season, Bravo has lost only once - at No. 1 doubles to Carleton's Doyle and Mikayla Becich. She remains unbeaten in singles play and has won each of her five matches in straight sets.
The Wildcats now improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in MIAC play.
