MIAC Release

The St. Catherine University tennis team has had its best start under Head Coach Ben Hageseth, going 3-0 early in the 2013 season. And that is in large part thanks to the stellar play of senior Michaela Burroughs (Waterloo, Neb.) who was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week for her spectacular performance against Minnesota State University-Mankato on Saturday.

The Wildcat squad took down the Mavericks in nearly-perfect fashion by a score of 8-1 in the non-conference contest. Burroughs had the team's top performance as she took down the Mavericks' Kelly Lechowski  6-0,6-1 at the No. 2 single position en route to a Wildcat victory. The senior is 3-0 in singles competition this season – with all her wins coming at the No. 2 position –  and has dropped only four total games to her opponents.

Burroughs – who was an All-MIAC selection in doubles last season – helped her team remain undefeated in doubles play this year as she and partner Maria Koval (Green Bay, Wis.) rolled out an 8-6 win at the No. 2 spot. The pair has dropped just eight games in three matches and has posted an impressive 3-0 record.

Burroughs and the rest of the Wildcat squad will face its toughest week of competition so far this season as they meet Bethel University for a conference matchup Friday at 6:30 p.m., before taking on last year's MIAC Champion Carleton College on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Both matches will take place at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.
