The simming & diving team had a busy weekend down at the Grinnell Invitational and came away with a fourth place team finish. In a rehersal for the conference meet next month, most Wildcats swam preliminaries and finals of multiple events with little rest. Despite the busy schedule, they return from Iowa with many season best times and two event victories.
Sarah Moody won the 3-meter diving with a score of 425.20, while
Steffanie Jurusik won the 400 IM with a time of 4:47.69. Allison Witt was seventh in the 400 IM, swimming 4:59.90.
Bridget Perkins just missed victory in the 100 fly, swimming 1:01.15.
Jurusik also picked up a 4th place finish in the 200 back (2:14.39), leading a trio of Wildcats in the "A" final.
Mary Walters placed sixth (2:16.64) and
Kathleen VanDeVoorde placed ninth (2:19.48).
The Wildcats turned in a fantastic relay effort to end the meet, with Perkins, Jurusik, Witt, and
Sarah Vrudny picking up a third place finish, behind only Nebraska-Omaha and Gustavus. Their time of 3:45.85 was their fastest of the season.
The team scored 538 points, good for a tie for fourth with host Grinnell, and only seven points away from Luther in third. The 11-team meet was won by Gustavus, with the University of Nebraska Omaha placing second.
