At the 2011 MIAC cross country championship meet the Wildcats may have only moved up one place from their 2010 performance, but they showed they are leaps and bounds better performance-wise. The team finished 66 points and almost a minute faster on average then they did in 2010. The Wildcats also set numerous personal bests on the challenging Como Park course.
Kristina Poss turned in one of the highest MIAC individual finishes in St. Kate's history to lead the team. Poss was also one of many Wildcats to lower her PR. Poss' time of 24:10 was an 18 second personal best and 76 seconds better than her time at the MIAC race last season. Her 35th place finish was only 10 places away from MIAC Honorable-Mention.
First-year
Ashlee Bahlmann tied her PR and ran a very strong race to finish second for the Wildcats, running 24:30 and placing 49th.
Jessica Rogers was a few seconds back in 24:41 and 55th place.
Sophie Shogren was 59th in 24:49, which was 22 second PR for her.
Sarah Howe rounded out the Wildcats team scoring after she dropped 90 seconds off her MIAC race time of a year ago. Howe also broke 25 minutes for the first time in her career with a 24:58 and 65th place showing.
First-year
Jenna McElroy was sixth for the team in a PR of 25:11, with senior
Heidi Sande just behind in a PR of 25:15. Fellow senior
Emily Eastman also PR'd, running 25:30. Running her first 6k ever, first-year
Mia Washington ran 26:10.
Jenny Donohue (26:21) and
Kelsey Eder (27:09) both also ran new PR's.
The Wildcats lowered their score from 329 in 2010 to 263 this season. They were only 30 points away from 9th place Macalester and almost 100 points ahead of 11th place.
Carleton won the meet with an impressive 1-2-3 finish helping them to a team score of 33 points. St. Olaf was second, followed by Gustavus, St. Thomas, St. Ben's, Bethel, Concordia, Hamline, Macalester, St. Kate's, Augsburg, and St. Mary's.
Carleton's Simone Childs-Walker won the meet with a time of 22:06.
