Hockey loses by one to St. Olaf in another close game 2-3

The Wildcats battled St. Olaf for the second day in a row. Both games were physical, hard fought competitions. Unfortunately, both games ended in a 2-3 loss for St. Kate's.

"Both teams played hard tonight, it was a good college hockey game," said head coach Brad Marshall after the game. "Our intensity and work was there tonight. We had numerous open looks that just wouldn't go in. Their goalie made some pretty key saves and also got some help from the 2 or 3 posts we hit."

Like last night, the Oles started the scoring in the first period. This time at the 5:40 mark. A little over four minutes later, SCU tied it up on a Jessica Feltes goal, assisted by Cassie Rooney. That is how the period would end, with the teams dead-locked at one a piece.

The second period was much of the same, St. Kate's broke the tie on a power play goal by Kelsey Abrahamson, assisted by Kayla Clafton. A short while later there was a game tying goal by St. Olaf and the second period would end knotted at 2-2.

The lone third period goal came at 9:40 on an unassisted goal by St. Olaf's Christina Benjamin. Despite some great pressure the Wildcats could not find the equalizer and suffered their first back-to-back loses in MIAC play since February of 2009.

The Wildcats take the ice again Friday night in Ridder Arena against #8 Gustavus Adolphus at 7:00 p.m.
