Basketball Rolls Over St. Mary's
The St. Kate’s basketball team topped St. Mary’s 86-59 Saturday afternoon at Butler Center, improving their MIAC record to 5-3 and their overall record to 6-5.
The score was tied 21-21 with about 10 minutes left n the first half when the Wildcats went on a 25-10 run to close out the half.
Molly Peterson helped give St. Kate’s the large lead at halftime, scoring 17 of her 21 points in the first half.
Cassandra Hubler went 2 for 2 from three-point range and
Laura Kalbfell added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the first half.
St. Kate’s kept the offensive pressure on the Cardinals in the second half, eventually increasing their lead to 76-45 with just over 7 minutes remaining. The Wildcats avoided St. Mary’s full-court press late in the game to seal their 86-59 victory.
The Cardinals were held to just 3-of-21 three-pointers and 33.9% from the field for the game. St. Kate’s went 7-of-11 from three-point range and shot 58.5% from the field on the afternoon.
Jenna Olson did not miss a shot in the game, going 3-for-3 from the field and making all six of her free throw attempts. Olson's 13 points made her one of four Wildcats to reach double figures as Kalbfell finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Hubler recorded 11 points and Peterson had 21 points.
The Wildcats host Concordia College on Wednesday, January 13th at 7:30 p.m. at Butler Center.
