Sieve chases NCAA mark
Greta Sieve competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase at North Central College in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA national meet. While she will have to wait until Sunday afternoon to find out if she has qualified for the meet, she does not have to wait to know that she turned in another outstanding performance.
One week after lowering her personal best in the steeplechase by 24 seconds, Sieve dropped another 15 seconds when she raced to a time of 10:53.40 at the Gregory Invitational in Naperville Illinois. That is a performance which not only re-established Sieve's own St. Kate's school record, but it improved her NCAA provisional qualifying time significantly and moved her into the top twenty on the national performance list of potential qualifiers for the NCAA meet.
Sieve's time is now also the fourth fastest women's steeplechase time in MIAC history.
NCAA Division III Nationals will be held May 21-23 at Marietta College in Marietta Ohio. Final entries for the meet are submitted Saturday May 16th, and the NCAA selection committee releases the list of qualifiers on Sunday May 17th.
