The St. Kate's cross country team competed at the NCAA Central Regional Championships in Grinnell, Iowa. The Wildcats had all seven runners turn in season best times, and senior
Greta Sieve advanced to Saturday's NCAA National Meet in Cleveland, Ohio.
Sieve finished seventh overall with a new personal best time of 21:58. By virtue of her finish, Sieve earned her first All-Region Award. She also becomes the third St. Kate's runner to qualify to compete at the National Meet. She is also the first St. Kate's student-athlete ever to qualify to compete in both cross country and track & field NCAA National Championships.
First year
Jessica Rogers finished second for the Wildcats. Rogers ran a 48 second personal best and finished 116th overall with a time of 25:01.
She was followed closely across the line by
Renee Crepeau (25:27),
Tamar Billiet (25:29) and
Heidi Sande (25:39) to round out the team's score.
The Wildcats finished 19th with a score of 528. That tied their highest finish in the regional championships since 1998, which coincidentally is the first, and last time, St. Kate's qualified athletes for the NCAA National Championships when both Monika Deroussel and Katie Jorgenson qualified for the meet.
MIAC Champion Carleton won the regional championships with 95 points, while MIAC individual champion Marie Borner won the regional title with a time of 21:15.
The National Championships will be held on Saturday November 21 at Highland Hills Golf Course just outside of Cleveland.
