The Wildcat Hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie against Lindenwood Saturday night at Ridder Arena. The game kept the fans on their feet, with the lead changing three times and a hard-fought overtime period.

St. Kate’s got on the board first when Sophomore Liz Bauer put in a shot from Anna Sombrio and Rachael Gasperetti with 2:12 left in the period. The Wildcats were able to hold Lindenwood scoreless in the first period.

Lindenwood turned up their offensive production in the second period, rattling off 3 goals in a 6 minute span.  But the Wildcats powerfully responded. Anna Sombrio scored a goal 13:11 into the period, assisted by Meghan Lange and Randi Weinzierl. Just over two minutes later, Junior Michaela Michaelson, fed from Katie Lawler and Meghan Lange, took advantage of a St. Kate’s power play to tie the score at 3-3.

But the offensive explosion was not quite finished, as Sophomore Kelsey Abrahamson slapped in an unassisted goal to give the Wildcats the 4-3 lead going into the 2nd intermission.

Solid defense characterized the 3rd period, but Lindenwood was able to squeak in a goal early in the period to tie the score at 4-4. Despite heavy offensive pressure by the Wildcats the rest of the period, firing 16 shots in the 3rd period alone, neither team were able to put in the game-winning goal.

The overtime period was a continuation of the 3rd period, with both teams creating some offensive chances and making efficient defensive plays. When the 5 minute period had ended, the score remained 4-4.

St. Catherine out-shot Lindenwood 39-27 and won 36 of 59 faceoffs. First year Anna Sombrio recorded one goal and one assist while Junior Meghan Lange recorded 2 assists.

The Wildcats host Augsburg on Thursday, November 19th, at 7:00PM at Ridder Arena.
