ST. PETER, Minn. - St. Catherine dropped the series finale with No. 9 Gustavus Adolphus, 2-1 at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minnesota. With the loss, the Wildcats are now 3-2 and 0-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
The Gusties were first on the board finding the back of the net on the power-play effort at 8:31 in the first period after a Wildcat penalty for charging.
Junior
Emilee Anderson scored her fourth goal of the season to knot the game up at 1-1 with help from
Veronica Gruett at 9:26 in the first.
The game winning goal was scored by Gustavus at 1:30 into the second period with the final 38 minutes of the contest remaining scoreless.
Sophomore
Karly Schmidt claimed the loss in net for the Wildcats tallying 40 saves in 60 minutes. The Wildcats had 14 shots in the contest led by Anderson and first-year
Laura Denchfield firing off three each.
With a young squad this season, head coach
Brad Marshall noted after the game, "We're still in a learning phase of our season. This is a process that will take some time." On the roster this season, 15 of the 23 players are first-years and sophomores while the junior class makes up six of the eight upper-classmen.
St. Catherine is on the road again next Friday as they travel to Saint Mary's University at 7 pm in Winona. The Wildcats return to St. Paul on Saturday hosting the Cardinals for game two at 4:30 PM.
