ST. PAUL, Minn. - Seniors
Brede Postier and
Laken Muller had an impressive afternoon leading the Wildcats to their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win over the St. Olaf College Oles (0-12-2. 0-6-2 MIAC). The Wildcats topped the Oles 3-2 in OT in game two of the series. The conference foes were both in the hunt for their first MIAC win as both games resulted in OT match-ups.
The Oles were on the board first at Drake Arena at 8:51 in the 1ST period to hold the one goal lead into the first intermission.
Postier picked up her first of two goals in the Wildcats win, scoring a shorthanded goal assisted by La. Muller at 10:26 in the second period. Postier's second goal assisted by senior
Tori Thompson gave the Wildcats the 2-1 lead at 19:16 in the second period.
St. Olaf was able to tie the game again with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game to force the Wildcats second straight OT game.
Scoring her fourth goal of the season for the game winner with 41 seconds remaining was La. Muller, assisted by Postier and sophomore
Ashlyn Rakos.
"It's nice to see a solid effort after a late night a short turnaround with the early start. We usually do well when our seniors take over and lead the way" said head coach
Brad Marshall.
St. Catherine had 37 shots to the Oles just 26. La. Muller led the team in shots adding 7 today with Postier behind her at 5. La. Muller's sister junior
Lexi Muller, also had 5 shots against the Oles on Saturday. In addition to leading the team in goals, Postier is tied for 4th in the MIAC this season with 7, 4 of which were scored this weekend.
The Wildcats are home again Friday, January 18 at 7:30 PM taking on conference foe Saint Mary's (5-7-3, 2-5-1 MIAC).
