NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Wildcat hockey team picked up their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) point at the new St. Olaf Ice Arena on Friday evening. St. Kate's and St. Olaf settled in a 3-3 tie after 65 minutes of play.
Senior
Brede Postier gave the Wildcats an early one-goal lead 1:50 into the 1ST period unassisted. St. Olaf answered back just forty seconds later tying it 1-1 and took the 2-1 lead at 8:33 in the 1ST.
St. Olaf scored again in the 2ND period to take a 3-1 lead over St. Catherine headed into the final period in regulation.
At 6:15 in the 3RD, Postier scored her second goal of the game and fifth of the season assisted by seniors
Tori Thompson and
MacKenzie Ess. Ess scored for the Wildcats third goal of the game and her third of the season at 14:34 assisted by junior
Lexi Muller and sophomore
Emilee Anderson. Muller currently has 9 assists this season ranking her No. 6 in the MIAC.
While the Wildcats trailed the Oles most the game, St. Catherine outshot St. Olaf in all three periods plus in the 5 minute OT for a total of 38 shots this evening. Head coach
Brad Marshall said, " We cannot continue to play from behind most of the game. Tonight, we controlled the play and had some good looks."
St. Catherine will host the Oles Saturday at 1 pm at Drake Arena for game two of the conference series pairing.
