Rain doesn't slow track & field down
The St. Kate's track and field team competed for the final time before the MIAC outdoor championships, and while the cloudy skies turned to steady rain for the final portion of the meet, the precipitation did not dampen the Wildcats spirits as they turned in a whole host of season best performances.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was yet another school record performance. Junior team captain Greta Sieve set her third record of the outdoor season when she took down Jody Brinkman's thirteen year old 1500 meter record. Sieve's time of 4:45.94 shaved nearly two seconds off the previous record. It also placed her fourth overall in a field of 46 runners from Division I, II and III schools.
Other top finishers for St. Kate's included a third place finish from Celestine Ventura in the hammer throw (44.36m 145-06), Kayla Engel placing fourth in the 800 meter run (2:20.47), Samantha Levercom finishing fifth in the 100 meter dash (13.44), and Samantha Larson finished sixth in the hammer throw with a new personal best mark of 41.80 meters (137-02).
The MIAC Championships begin at 2 pm on Friday at Carleton College.
