The Wildcats softball team split a double-header with St. Mary’s on Saturday afternoon, bringing their record to 10-6 in the M.I.A.C., and 11-17 overall. St. Kate’s won the first game 6-3, but came up short in the second game 0-8.
In game one, the Wildcats were able to get on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs in the third inning. After a Jessica Kniefel single, Lisa Jacobs doubled to bring in the Wildcats’ first run. Shortly thereafter, Jessi McGehee singled to send Jacobs home, giving St. Kate’s a 2-0 advantage.
Later in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and two outs, Kaitlyn Frank hit a triple to knock in three runs and bring the score to 5-1. The Wildcats added their final run in the sixth inning when Jenna Clark tripled, then advanced to home off a wild throw into the infield.
For the game, Lisa Jacobs went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI while Jessi McGehee went 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Frank was 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Tianna Allen pitched 7.0 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 earned runs while recording 7 strikeouts. The win brings Allen’s record to 7-8 on the season.
Game two did not go as well for the Wildcats, as they fell behind 1-0 in the first inning and were never able to jump start a comeback.
Jacobs, Frank, and Kelsey Luedtke recorded the only hits for St. Kate’s.
The loss brings Kayla Bergerson’s record to 4-9.
