On "Dig Pink" and senior night at the
Butler Center gym, the St. Kate's volleyball team squared off with #16 Ranked St. Ben's in a MIAC matchup with significant playoff implications. The Wildcats battled the nationally ranked Blazers all night long, but fell 3-1 (21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 21-25).
In the first set the teams were tied 10-10 before the Blazers went on a 10-6 run and closed out the set with a 25-21 win.
CSB carried that momentum into game two where the grabbed a 19-9 lead before the Wildcats rallied to make it 25-18.
St. Kate's played their best during the third set. After some back and forth points to start the set, the Wildcats extended their lead the entire way. They hit .312 for the set and went on to win 25-16.
Trailing 2-1, SCU pushed CSB to the brink. The Wildcats led 12-7 at one point, and after falling behind 23-19 rallied to cut it to two before falling 25-21.
Megan Ahlbrecht led the Wildcats offensively with 15 kils and hit .379 from her middle hitter position.
Nina Lindquist collected 37 set assists and
Nicole Neumann led the team with 12 digs.
The Wildcats still find themselves in a tie for the final MIAC playoff spot with St. Mary's heading into the final regular season matches of the weekend. To make the playoffs the Wildcats will have to defeat Macalester on Friday at 7 pm and then hope Gustavus defeats St. Mary's.
