Wildcats end track season with more records

Despite the steady rain and dropping temperatures on the last day of the MIAC championships, the St. Kate's track and field team closed out their season by doing what they have done all year, breaking school records. The Wildcats set two more records to bring their 2008 season total to 13 new event records (seven during the indoor season and six during the outdoor season).

Junior Chi Chi Obi was the first one to add her name to the St. Kate's record books with a fourth-place finish and 15.49 clocking in the 100 hurdles. By finishing in the top six Obi also earned MIAC Honorable Mention Honors.

The freshman trio of Jamie Wenzel, Kim and Kayla Engel joined with sophomore Amanda Manship to set yet another school record in the 4 x 400. Their time of 4:02.50 was good enough for fifth place overall.

The 4 x 400 meter relay record was the conclusion of a very busy day for freshman standout Jamie Wenzel. Wenzel took 6th in the 200 meter dash, fourth in the 400 meter dash, and ran on the 5th place 4 x 100 meter relay team with Obi and the Engel's.

Other point scorers for the Wildcats included Kayla Engel taking 8th in the 400 hurdles, Greta Sieve finishing 8th in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and Samantha Larson getting 8th in the javelin throw.

The Wildcats tripled their point total from last season and moved up a couple of notches to 9th place in the final standings. That finish equals their highest placing during the outdoor season since the 2001 season.  With no seniors on the roster, the Wildcats hope to build on this record setting 2008 season in the coming years.

St. Thomas won the meet for the 25th time.  Complete results are available here
